This Is Me Being Uncomfortable: Episode 004

In this episode of “This Is Me Being Uncomfortable,” I mumble largely about writing, creativity, and the influence of life (and death) experience on how you see the world.

In this episode of “This Is Me Being Uncomfortable,” I mumble largely about writing, creativity, and the influence of life (and death) experience on how you see the world. In playing it back, this was easily the least uncomfortable episode to date. My little experiment seems to be working, but I’m still not changing the name of the podcast that’s not really a podcast, although it sorta kinda is, sorta.

Show notes

00:01: My usual awkward intro
01:50: Writing in a notebook, with a red ink pen—a color that elicits a negative response for many, but not me
02:50: Naturally doing everything backwards
03:30: I can still dog you in basketball, as in destroy you
04:15: Unleashing creativity the old school way. Read the science about the benefits of writing by hand

07:30: Falling in love with my wife all over again
09:00: When the Lights Go Out at 10:16: A Memoir
10:00: The War is Over (A clarification on writer’s block)
10:30: Life and death experience and how it radically alters your perspective
11:45: “I’m going to die on Tuesday. Don’t miss school.”
13:00: Getting in the zone, in a flow state. Here’s the book I referenced: Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
14:00: Starting over again, as a writer, and re-connecting with my past
16:00: Loathing self-promotion
16:30: Until next time, keep it real, keep it ill

The love journal I mention in the show and in “The Way I Love You” is called Why I Love You. If you want to help financially support this blog (which means help me pay for hosting services), buy it using this link. You still pay the same price as you normally would. I just get a small piece of change for the referral.

About “This Is Me Being Uncomfortable”

“This Is Me Being Uncomfortable” is a podcast that’s not really a podcast in which I talk unscripted into my iPhone and then upload the audio to my website on the Internet to torture unsuspecting listeners who don’t know any better. “This Is Me Being Uncomfortable” is a way for me to get my thoughts out of my head, and not always in written form. I’m fully aware that I don’t have the prettiest voice. You try being 6’4” tall from southern Virginia. Perhaps I should add some soft music in the background, eh? If you’d like me to talk about a certain topic (writing, anxiety, meditation, life, death, and/or everything in between), contact me.
